antique porcelain How can I determine whether hairline cracks I see in porcelain glaze are ONLY in the glaze & don't go through?
I have an antique Limoges porcelain container that has no opening, or, rather, no removable cover, so that precludes looking INSIDE to see the porcelain itself. There are many VERY FINE (apparent) cracks running throughout the piece that are undetectable except upon close inspection. Is there some kind of definitive test to establish if these "lines" are only in the glaze?
tap or flick the piece with your fingers. If the cracks are only in the glaze, it will have a ringing sound. if the cracks go through the porcelain, it will sound dull and low.

old facotry? workwear? what image did i miss? I certainly would not call a antique porcelain barber chair “old facotry”, and Steven Alan is not “work wear” in my book.
The place is called http://www.replacements.com in Greensboro, North Carolina. Phone number is 1-800-737-5223. You can email them, give them the name but I would also send a picture and the size of the plate (like 10"). They have the world's largest inventory of china, crystal and silver. Good luck.

Oh, Brother Andrew had his “moments” [ the family madness, if you will ]!!! Glad it's all over now. I hope you will not have a mad character like him in your family, ever.
Our family treasures its enduring friendship with your family. After all, the Gonzalez-Arnedo and the Escudero-Marasigan have known each other since 1890. Escudero gifts have always graced the Gonzalez home in the same way ours are in yours: not only comestibles but antique porcelain, ivory, silver, and gold. Our generation intends to keep things the way they always have been with all of our old family friends.
Yes, the Old Ties are the reason why it means so much for me to visit, every now and then, your family's beautiful Villa in San Pablo, Laguna. At least, one part of my early life with my loving Lola Charing remains, my memories of your kind Lola Charing and dignified Lolo Sening, in an enchanting place which only gets more beautiful with every passing year.
Oh-Big Hugs!I can so relate to your feelings! As a mommy to a 6yo boy, 4yo girl, 2yo boy, and a little girl due in early 2011, I have resigned myself to not get attached to anything while my kids are still so little-and some items remain packed away until the “Bam-Bam” stage has passed. Each one of my little ones is different and I have had to tweak my parenting approach when they hit the 2-3 year stage:) Right now my toddler is very much a rough and tumble unlike my other 2-and I have had to re-think my approach and mindset. Nice to know I am not alone in this challenge:) These little beings teach us so much!I had bought these beautiful grape leaf dishes-for fun serving items-just little dishes for fall and spring-and sadly they have not survived little hands. I am glad they were on clearance-doesn’t smart so much. They just were not as hardy as I thought-lol. I have a small curio with my pretty little fragile items I pass each day-a couple of rose tea cups by Royal Albert, some small antique porcelain-etc. Just some eye candy I can look at esp. when the day is hairy.Sometimes it is hard to fill our own parenting bucket!Best,Rose

She has an incredible face, like those antique porcelain German and French dolls.
