where can i find a dollhouse kit that looks like hogwarts?
my mom is really into dolls and i really like harry potter, so i thought it would be a fun project to build a doll house that looks like hogwarts from the harry potter books. i've tried finding harry potter dollhouses online, but they're all cheap plastic toys made in china. I want a kit that's made from wood, like the amazing dollhouses they show in gothic horror movies, something that will last for when i have kids of my own. i've looked for castle kits and cathedral kits, but haven't had much luck.
one option would be to find a person that can do the job of making a better representation of Hogwarts. but they may be pricey...
another option would be to make it yourself. best media would be tissue paper soaked in diluted white glue layered over styrofoam blocks and painted over with acrylic paint...

A hat will turn out smaller if you are using a smaller crochet hook and smaller yarn. Everyone has a different tension while crocheting so you may naturally crochet tight. If that is the case, you will use a larger crochet hook to make up the difference.

I pretty much did the same thing you did – a few years ago I decided to build the dollhouse I always dreamt of as a girl. Mine is a 1" scale, and I haven't had a terrible time finding accessories. I don't know where you live, but if you have a Hobby Lobby, I would start there. They have lots of kits for reasonable prices, plus they often have coupons, and they have displays of all their styles so you can see which one will be the best size for you.
As far as furnishing, I got creative because I didn't want to spend a ton of money. For example, I used small-patterned scrapbook paper as wallpaper. I also bought a few household items on clearance at a craft store – they were actually miniatures for holiday displays, and it was after the holiday so they'd been marked down. Anything textile I've made myself – it's not difficult if you have basic sewing knowledge and patience to hand-stitch.
And, lastly, I built my own tool kit, getting only the things that I needed. Again I improvised, and instead of buying expenseive specialty items, I bought comparable items at a Home Depot.
P.S. Google to see if you have any dollhouse/minitature museums not too far away. You'd be surprised by how many there are around. And you can get lots of great ideas by viewing them. Hope that helps!
Monday, February 15, 2010 After breakfast, I took the bus to our Thomas Jefferson Memorial study visit. I had no idea that Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson had very different ideas about our new country. It was very interesting to learn that Jefferson was all about agriculture, while Hamilton was all about commerce and manufacturing. We then went to the FDR Memorial. Frankly, for a long time FDR was my favorite president because of my American Girl doll, Kit. He did help, but nevertheless it was World War 2 that brought us out of the Great Depression. For lunch we went to the Air and Space Museum. It’s one of my favorites, and I caught a glimpse of Amelia Earhart’s Lockheed Vega. It was an “OMGsh!” moment for sure. I took my friend Candra around the museum for a quick highlight tour, since we didn’t have much time. She really enjoyed the rockets (who doesn’t?) and the drones.
i'm good doll, the kittens had their lunch money stolen by bigger cats in the playground so they're hiding indoors today!

Reborn dolls are dolls that are repainted and then hair and eyes applied so they look like a real baby.
A kit has a doll that does not have paint from the factory already on it. It is generally the head, arms and legs that you attach to a cloth body.
