Doll Porcelain What is the best way to sell a porcelain doll collection?
I don't want to do the ebay thing, because I don't have a clue about it. It looks too complicated, with having to work out postage etc. I just want to know if there are shops or clubs or such who would be interested and where to find them. I live near Cairns, Australia.
If you're truly leery of using eBay then I'd suggest you try looking or checking with some collectors in your area for a local Toy Collectors Show (or something similar) so you can find what you're looking for through them.
That way you're going to find collectors who are ready to buy one of your dolls and treasure it for years to come.
But, since you're looking to do this (meeting the customer face-to-face) instead of on-line I'd also suggest you get any information you can about the collection of figures. What's the condition of the figure itself? Is it still MIB/MINB (Mint in Box/Mint in New Box) or was it bought from another collector? Is the manufacturer out of business or only making limited editions? Do you know if there are any books on the subject of your style of figures? Do you have any particular facts about the company & artist who made the figures you've collected?
Several good bookstores (large ones or their websites) have books on some subjects particular to your collection. Some manufacturers such as Hummel have a listed figures from their first years of manufacture to the most currently distributed collections, series numbers and even place of distribution (US or Europe only or whatever the case may be ) so you'll need to read very carefully and do your research.
Despite the leeriness of eBay some people have it is quite easy to start an account, or check in your area and see if there's a company that will sell for you on eBay. Some will take your items, make an auction site, send and mail everything and all you'll need to do is lose a small percentage such as 06% to 10% of the overall sale. This would mean if you sell a figure for $50 then you pay the company $05 for each figure sold or whatever their terms are for the sale of each figure. Look and see if there is a company in a larger city nearby and maybe they can help you.

How much is my porcelain doll worth?
I have a porcelain doll, made in china, limited edition with a certificate of authenticity on it that says 5,000 pieces made worldwide and #8 on the bottom of her foot. I don't know anything else about the doll. If anyone does please help me thank you.
maybe a maker would help.... once you have a better model description search ebay or craigslist to see if any one else is selling the same doll. if that doesn't work try a search engine such as yahoo or google and query ' doll model price value' where obviously in the place of doll model you type in the name/manufacturer/brand of doll. but just a hunch, since the porcelain doll is made in china where labor is very cheap and materials are of subpar build it means the doll can't be worth much.
Yoshiko Hori's creations are NOT made out of human skin. I suppose what they really mean is that they look like humans.Human skin can deteriorate fast, and I doubt that they inject things on them.
