I have two pre-mattel American Girl dolls who received haircuts. I do not want to send them into the AG doll hospital to get a new head for obvious reasons. The AG doll hospital will not rewig the doll. I need to know where I can find wigs for my Kirsten and Samantha dolls; and if anyone knows how to replace them.
It's actually quite easy to buy new wigs for dolls. Try looking at sites like Dolls and Friends ( http://www.dollsandfriends.com ), Denver Doll Emporium ( http://www.denverdoll.com ), Kemperdolls ( http://www.kemperdolls.com ), MiniWorld ( http://www.miniworlddolls.com ) - there are dozens and dozens of sites.
To find the wig size, just measure their heads - the sites all have instructions on how to do so. You're sure to find a similar style to their original haircuts, or maybe even something you'll like better.
Also, if you would prefer to re-root your dolls' hair ( i don't know if the original AG dolls had rooted hair or glued-on wigs), there are doll hobbyists who who provide that service semi-professionally. Contact me if this is the case, adn I'll try to help you find someone reputable.

I've never worked on MLP manes but I have de-tangled synthetic doll wigs. You can buy a special conditioner at a beauty supply place for synthetic hair. But, I've used regular shampoo and conditioner and it's worked fine. Get a brush with plastic bristles to comb the “hair”. If they are really tangled get them wet, shampoo, condition, then gently brush. Of course, just let them air dry. You might have to trim the ends if they are really dry. Good luck. Elaine
