   They're just playing. Hamsters like to dig, even if they can't actually dig through whatever they're digging at. A few of mine love to dig at the sides of their cages.

   I'm not sure if you want to keep something made of this material in their cage though. It may hurt them if they try to nibble on it, especially if it has any sort of paint on it that may harm them.

   I hate being in the house myself sometimes :L especially when there's a porcelain doll sitting in my mum & dad's room 

   ours used to "have fun" digging until we realised they were just bored and felt trapped. we moved them into a bigger cage and they loved it!! they still dig, but burrows in the sawdust not trying to escape. its horrible that only tiny cages are available in pet shops – make your own. we found a shallow wooden box with a waterproof lining – its 100cm by 80cm and we made a mesh lid. it was cheap and easy goodluck and hope you try it, they will have such a better life

   Porcelain beware! After staying in a house with toilet seats that gracefully glide to a close you may get slammed
