Do you think that "beauty pageants" for little girls should be banned?

They freak me out. They don't look like normal "little girls" they look almost like scary porcelain dolls in horror movies.

Most of their "looks" are unnatural to boot, some get spray on tans, glued on eyelashes, hair extensions, caps added to their teeth to look perfectly straight and really white, not to mention all the make-up slathered on them.

Why do you think the parents of these children are trying to achieve out of all of it?

Also, do you know if the screen the audience members of these pageants? I'm sure that going to one of those would be a child predators dream come true. O_O

I thought of this in light of the recent kidnappings as of late in states like Florida.

I think Beauty pagents for anyone under age 18 should be banned. It is a sick way of parading children around in sexualy explicit manner. I mean a 5 year old wearing makeup and trying to look like she's 19? This is a pedophiles dream! At 18 a woman should be old enough to make the choice. Teenagers who enter now are usually under the pressure of their parents and succumb to depression, eating dissorders, sleep disorders, stress, etc etc.

All for what purpose? To show how pretty they are? Can't we instill better sense of self into our young women - - or are they only worthy for their ability to provide entertainment with a pretty face?

I couldn't agree more! These little children are being exploited. These parents are trying to re-live their childhoods, at their own childrens expense. Children just need to be children, and play with toys & dolls, not make-up, hair and ball gowns!!

Yes. I consider forcing little girls to go in these things a form of child abuse.

yes, you should never want your kid to grow up to fast.
you want her to cherish her childhood.
however if she is a teen and knows something about life and wants to get into modeling thats fine.
Little girls really don't have a choice its all their moms and its so heartbreaking.

Yes I do, I've thought that ever since I first heard about them in the early nineties, I think they are dangerous for the children in more ways than one. It isn't good to teach them everything depends on their looks, that is unhealthy competition, children should be encouraged to play team sports, they learn that life doesn't revolve around them & their looks!
